At our Jams we often get asked about how to get started with the Raspberry Pi. There are lots of great resources out there so in the most part we will point to those here; however a brief overview of what you need and some of the places you can get them from follows below…
What do I need?
- Raspberry Pi computer (currently v4 in either 2Gb or 4GB RAM variants)
- Case for the computer
- Power supply (be sure to get the right one for the type of Raspberry Pi you are getting; v3 power supply will not work with v4 Pi computers!)
- USB keyboard and mouse
- HDMI cable (again, get the right type for your Pi; v3 and v4 use a different type!)
- SD Card to store your operating system on
Where can I get it from?
In no particular order, here are some of the online retailers that you can purchase the above parts from…
How do I get started with it?
The single best resource for getting started is probably over on the Raspberry Pi official site: https://projects.raspberrypi.org/en/pathways/getting-started-with-raspberry-pi
If you are still struggling after reading through that resource; then bring your Pi along to the next Jam and we will help you get started!
Remember, if you want to use all of the software we made use of at our Jams, you can download the Hull Raspberry Jam version of Raspbian from our downloads page!
